5 Essentials to Buy Before Moving

Moving to a new place is an exciting and stressful time. On one hand, you’re excited about what the future holds, while on the other hand, you’re stressed over the massive process that is moving.

Whether you’ve just closed on one of the Atlanta houses for sale or are moving into a New York apartment, there are some universal essentials that you’ll want before making the move. So what exactly should you stockpile before you make the big move? Here are five essentials to buy before moving.

Cleaning Supplies

One of the first things that you should buy before moving is lots of cleaning supplies. You’re going to want disinfectants, window cleaners, rags, soap, and lots more. You might think that your new place looks clean, but you can never be 100% sure what the lifestyle of the place’s previous resident was like.

As a result, you’ll want to clean the place as thoroughly as possible just to be sure. Cleaning an entire apartment or house can be a very tedious process and will likely take a lot of cleaning supplies, so you better stock up before the move.

Tools

Although you may be familiar with the place you’re moving into, you never really know what works and doesn’t work until you move in. As a result, you may find some problem areas around the home that require some light fixing and some DIY.

Although these areas may not be deal-breakers, they definitely will require some fixing. As a result, you should have plenty of tools when you move into your new home. These tools will allow you to fix any small problems that arise with your new home, saving you a trip to the hardware store down the line.

Clothes Hangers

Moving to a new location requires you to transfer all of your belongings to a new place. One of the more annoying things to transfer is your clothes. You likely have a lot of clothing items, and transferring all of them over can be quite tedious. You’re going to want to ensure that you have plenty of clothes hangers to hang your clothing items up.

You don’t want to be in a situation where you have to go out and get more clothes hangers just to hang your clothing items up, taking away valuable time from other parts of the move. You might think that you can just organize your closet exactly the way you did at your own place, but that isn’t always an option due to different closet sizes and different storage spaces.

In addition, moving to a new location is the perfect time to alter the way your closet is arranged, just make sure that you’re well prepared for the task before you make the big move.

Food and Drinks

When you’re moving into your new home, you’ll likely have a lot on your plate. As a result, you probably don’t want to go to the grocery store in order to pick up food and drinks. Before you move, you should stockpile enough groceries to last you for a bit of time. Doing so can allow you to focus on the move and not on picking up food for lunch and dinner.

You may even want to take this a step further and prep meals in advance before moving. You can simply put these meals in the fridge and take them out when you’re ready to eat, allowing you to dedicate your time to the move and getting acclimated to your new place.

Batteries

Batteries may not be at the top of your list for essential moving items, but they should be. You likely only keep a small number of batteries in your home to replace those in appliances and electronics, but you’ll likely need more.

You might need batteries for things like smoke detectors, flashlights, remote controls, and other appliances or electronics. With so much on your plate already, you don’t want to have to disrupt your day or pause your move just so you can go to the store and pick up something as small as batteries. As a result, you should ensure that you have plenty on hand before you make the big move.
