Fort Lauderdale, also known as the Venice of America, features an intricate canal system and is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Florida. The area is home to over 100 boatyards and marinas, as well as over 4,000 restaurants and nearly 120 nightclubs.

The name comes from a fort build in the area during the Second Seminole War, although the city wasn't established until about 50 years later. During the war, 3 separate Fort Lauderdale forts were built, each named after Major William Lauderdale, who commanded soldiers nearby.

Today, residents and tourists alike appreciate the tropical climate of Fort Lauderdale, as well as the 7 miles of beach. The area has seen an increase in the number of high-rise luxury condominiums, although the area is also home to the largest drive-in movie theater in the world and the Fort Lauderdale Swap Shop, the largest indooroutdoor flea market.
