How to Get Rid of Mosquito Bites

Summer is a time for outdoor activities, having cookouts, and soaking up some vitamin D. And while the warm seasons are mainly awesome, they do have one particular drawback in some places – mosquitoes.

Nothing can ruin a perfect night faster than a swarm of pesky mosquitoes that are looking to suck your blood and leave you with an uncomfortable itch for days to come. And while in most places, they are a natural hazard of summer, that doesn’t mean that we have to suffer. Here is a list of home remedies on how to get rid of mosquito bites.

Give Them an Ice Bath

Ice is great for reducing inflammation so it makes sense that it will do wonders for those swollen bites all over your body. But besides shrinking the skeeter bumps, ice will also numb your skin which will soothe the pain and reduce that annoying itchy feeling. Don’t ice for too long on your bare skin though, as it can be damaging. Instead, put a thin cloth in between the ice and your body.

Honey

Is there anything that honey can’t do? This magical serum from our beloved bees is good for so many things and one of them is mosquito bites. Honey contains anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties that can really help with the itch.

Different cultures have been using it for centuries on bumps, bruises and cuts. Just make sure you resist the temptation to lick yourself. Pro tip: you might be attracting mosquitos because your grass is too long. Visit Gastonia City Page and find out how you can solve that problem!

Aloe Vera

Another member of the “do it all” family, aloe vera also has great anti-inflammatory properties and has been a household remedy for many ailments since probably the beginning of time.

It helps accelerate healing on minor cuts and scratches and works on bites too. Cut open a small section of the plant, extract its cool gel, and apply it to your body. Let it dry and then repeat as necessary.

Basil

No, not for whipping up a nice pesto to act as comfort food. Basil has actually been involved in studies that show that it has a chemical compound that can soothe itchy skin.

To try this method, boil a couple of cups of water, and then add a cup of basil and let it steep. Later when it’s cooled, put the liquid on a facecloth and apply it to your bites.

Vinegar

Vinegar can be part of a salad dressing, act as a cleaning product, and even be used as a mosquito bite remedy. By applying a little vinegar to your bite, you should notice a reduction in swelling and itch. It’s also a natural disinfectant which can be a good thing if you have been scratching too hard and have drawn blood.
