How To Maintain A Positive Relationship With Your Neighbors

Many people believe that a house isn’t a home without a community surrounding you. Living in a place where you have your neighbors’ backs, and they have yours, is a dream we all have – but is it achievable in 2021? We are staying at home more than ever due to the pandemic – has this caused you problems?

Unfortunately, more and more people are establishing negative or toxic relationships with their neighbors. While it isn’t necessary to be best friends with your neighbors, it is always beneficial to have a good relationship with the people who live close to you!

In this blog, we will discuss how to maintain a positive relationship with your neighbors.

Treat your neighbors how you’d like to be treated.

This sounds like super basic advice, but most people don’t adhere to this as a rule. It is easy to become indignant and inconsiderate towards your neighbors, especially if you perceive them to be rude. When it comes to disturbance, noise, unsightly views, or maintenance problems, the more common response is to argue with your neighbors.

However, at the end of the day, arguing and being stubborn will get you nowhere. Negotiation is always the best option, even if you believe that you are right, and they are wrong. If the tables were turned, how would you feel? This is the question to ask yourself in conflict situations.

Put your best foot forward when you move in.

When you first move to your new home, it is important to put your best foot forward with your neighbors. They have lived there longer than you, and likely know the ins and outs of the area. Although it might seem a little forward, you could knock on their door and introduce yourself, thereby establishing a positive relationship.

By making a good first impression, you can build a rapport with your neighbors that will help you down the line if issues arise. Your neighbor is likely to let things slide if they know you to be a nice, reasonable person.

Use technology to help you!

Believe it or not, there are devices out there that can help you keep in your neighbors’ good books. Neighborly fallings out are usually caused by noise disturbances, and these can be resolved, or even prevented, using tech.

You can learn how to deal with unreasonable noise complaints from your neighbors by using a plug-in device that monitors your noise levels. These devices can solve arguments by providing hard facts about noise levels, rather than relying on claims or conjecture.

Similarly, you could install CCTV cameras outside your home. These are not so you can spy on your neighbors, but they can resolve disputes if a neighbor claims something against you, such as damages or negligence of shared outdoor space.

Final Thoughts

This blog can help if you want to have a great relationship with your neighbors rather than entering into arguments! Use our guidelines to ensure you keep the peace among your community!
