Signs That Your Air Conditioning System Needs Maintenance

Now that we’re starting to move back into warmer weather, many of us will be turning on those air conditioning systems to help keep us cool throughout the hot summers. However, since many of us haven’t used our air conditioning systems for a while, it’s common to experience issues that may need addressing before we can comfortably use our HVAC systems again.

We always suggest that you seek out HVAC maintenance services before the summer season is in full swing. Whether it’s a HVAC duct replacement you need or just a simple maintenance check, it can help ensure your system is running correctly. However, most people wouldn’t be able to tell if there was a problem. So in this post, we’re going to talk about a few signs that you should be looking out for.

Is your air conditioner leaking?

Your air conditioner uses a refrigerant to cool the air in your home. However, it’s prone to producing condensation as it works, meaning there’s a chance that it could start leaking. The liquid and the condensation should be managed internally by the air conditioning unit, but depending on how it’s installed and your home conditions, you might find that it’s starting to cause issues. If you notice leaking or liquid pooling around the main unit, then you’ll want to speak to a HVAC contractor and ask for advice. The faster you sort this out, the less chance your HVAC system will be damaged.

Are you experiencing more humidity than usual?

Spring and summer are usually more humid than autumn and winter. However, if you find that things are getting a little too humid when you have your air conditioning system on, then you may want to contact your local HVAC service contractor to get the system checked out. If your cooling system can’t keep moisture levels in the air at a comfortable level, then it may be due to a fault. The issue can be quickly diagnosed and will ensure that you can stay comfortable throughout the hot seasons without the air feeling sticky.

Smelly odors around the home

Unpleasant odors can have many different sources, but if you find that it usually only happens when the air conditioner is on, then there’s a good chance that it’s being caused by your HVAC system. You’ll want to deal with this quickly as the odors can quickly spread and get worse. Depending on the source of the odors, it could even require a full clean. If it’s being caused by microbial growth, then it could continue spreading throughout your home unless you deal with it immediately.

Weird noises coming from the air conditioning unit
If you find that your air conditioning unit is making weird noises then it’s a good idea to speak with a specialist. No HVAC system should make strange noises and if it’s only recently started happening, then it’s a sign that something is broken. You should turn it off and get it fixed as soon as possible to prevent further damage to your air conditioning unit.
